The town itself is small and easy to cover on foot, but most attractions are out of town, so getting around by car, taxi or a hotel transfer matters. The town centre of La Fortuna has the most hostels, guesthouses and simple hotels, with restaurants and shops all close by. It is the cheapest and handiest base for a first stay.
